Why We Decided to Get TSA Approved?

We absolutely love traveling and hope to do a lot of it now that Adeline is a little bigger. However, like many we know traveling with kiddos can be a hassle. We immediately looked into the TSA PreCheck process.
What Is The TSA PreCheck Program?
TSA PreCheck is a trusted traveler program that allows for an expedited security screening process for domestic and some international flights. With this program you do not need to remove shoes, belts, 3-1-1 liquids, laptops or light jackets. TSA.gov reports that in "April 2022,, 94% of TSA PreCheck passengers waited less than 5 minutes. This is music to this mommas ears!
How Does It Work For Families?
Children 12 and under can join a parent/guardian with TSA PreCheck in the designed lanes. After age 12, they would need to apply for TSA PreCheck approval.
How Much Does It Cost?
Your initial application has a non-refundable fee of $85. The membership lasts for five years. If you choose to renew online it costs approximately $75.
How To Apply for TSA PreCheck?
You can apply for TSA PreCheck online in about five minutes. You will need to schedule an in person appointment for an interview at the enrollment center. We selected the MIA Airport and the process was smooth and quick. You can expect to spend about ten minutes doing this process. They will take your fingerprinting for a background check. Once approve you will get a "Known Traveler Number". Jairo and I scheduled our appointments back to back and we were able to go in together.
How Long Does It Take To Get TSA PreCheck?
This varies from person to person. Applicants are approved within three to five days. However, for some it can take up to sixty days. For us this process was extremely quick.
Hope this helps you in your summer travels. Don't forget to add your Known Traveler Number to your boarding pass. Before entering the TSA PreCheck lane you will need to flash your boarding pass with the PreCheck logo.
